A U.S. Senator from West Virginia expressed his support for the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on CNN Thursday morning.
“It will be really good to get him back on United States soil,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V) said on CNN’s “New Day” with John Berman. “So now he’s our property and we can get the facts and the truth from him.”
The Australian national was arrested at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after residing there for almost seven years. He has been charged with conspiring to commit computer hacking with fellow whistleblower Chelsea Manning.
“The charge relates to Assange’s alleged role in one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States,” the DOJ reportedly said.

Assange is a world-renowned journalist who has won numerous awards for his work, including a TIME’s 2010 reader’s choice person of the year. He was recently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Big League Politics reported:
Should Assange go on to face prosecution in the United States due to his activities with Wikileaks, he could represent one of the most high-profile individuals to face charges related to exposing sensitive information as a journalist. The Australian publisher, having once been popular on the political left for publishing materials critical of the Iraq War, became a target of animosity from the Deep State and American liberals for his exposure of the Democratic National Committee’s hacked emails, which revealed the national party rigged its 2016 Presidential Primary for Hillary Clinton.
