Tuesday night, freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to MSNBC to blast President Donald J. Trump for funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after Trump’s Oval Office Address on border security.
“On the day of Christmas, a child died in ICE custody,” she told Rachel Maddow, feigning outrage. “The President should not be asking for money to an agency that has systematically violated human rights. The President should be really defending why we are funding such an agency at all.”
Political theater and hyperbole aside, Ocasio-Cortez’s rant was not only cringeworthy, but also hypocritical, true to leftist form.
On Jan.3, she voted “Aye” on H.J.Res. 1: Making further continuing appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for fiscal year 2019, and for other purposes.

ICE is an agency within DHS, which Ocasio-Cortez voted in favor of funding.
The continuing resolution said:
This was the vote on the House Democrats’ continuing resolution to reopen the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the midst of the government shutdown beginning on December 22, 2018. The resolution does not include $5.6 billion in funding for a southern border wall, and as such the President has stated that he will not sign it, adding that he would be willing to continue the shutdown for months or years.
The resolution would fund DHS until February 8, which House Democrats argue would give time to come to an agreement about the border wall without continuing the shutdown. House Democrats issued a press release on passage of the resolution.
In other words, less than one week after voting to fund ICE, Ocasio-Cortez blasted to President for funding ICE.
Leftists like AOC have their talking points laid out. They toe the line and say what they are supposed to say for Democratic Party optics. It is all for show – to keep voters happy while they grab more power from the American people.
